In trading, there are all kinds of things we can’t control.

• The market’s whims.

• The number of setups you get.

• Whether your next trade will hit or miss.

Yet most traders try to focus on all of these. We get angry when we don’t get enough setups or our trade doesn’t play out. Or when we blow our 10th account (we’ve all been there).

But news flash, Mr.Market doesn’t care about us. He doesn’t care that we can only look away from our screen for 5 seconds before the anxiety kicks in. He’s going to do whatever he wants to do!

And so, because of that, we need to determine what is within our control and focus only on those variables. And throw everything else aside.

Control the Controllables 🎮

Think of trading like playing a video game. You can’t control how the game’s AI behaves, but you can control your strategy, your reactions, and your decisions.

This is what we want to do in trading.

Here’s another example: Imagine a seasoned sailor in a storm. They can’t control the wind or the waves, but they can control how they steer the ship, adjust the sails, and navigate through the storm.

Similarly, trading is about controlling your actions and responses, not the market's behaviour. Trying to fight the market is like the sailor trying to change the weather; it just ain’t going to happen.
